Not long ago, an interviewer asked me if there was a common denominator in all of my work, since it all looked so creative and different to her. Assuredly, I responded, it is always to assist the person in finding self-compassion and peace.
We grow up having unique experiences in our families of origin, but as adults, we forget that we were not always mature adults when many of these things were happening to and around us. Often, we survive and move on in our lives without taking inventory of all we have been through. As we move on and begin to create and experience our lives, the places where we become stuck, confused, or hurt, trigger the unfinished state. Some people find a desire to live a better emotional life and know what makes them tick.
Self Compassion Involves Acknowledging Early Wounds
As the discovery roads lead back to the unfinished bits, clients are often surprised, as I was in my own work, how young they were when the unfinished business was created. They might have actually been only seven years old and powerless to impact what was happening, or they might have been a teen without the skill set to deal with aggression. As they begin to awaken to the truth of where they were at that age and what was possible, they can begin to feel compassion for their inner self and view themselves with love and understanding. The work is never about self-pity. Self-compassion is a state of truth felt through love, which truly heals the soul.
My Journey
These inner shifts to awareness and wholeness in my own journey have not happened overnight. I have learned from my students and clients in the Equine Gestalt Coaching Method® over the decades and value their presence in my life. The parts of self I identify in my being today are vast and varied, each formed in response to the life and experiences I have endured and created. Remembering that precious life is in fact in session, it is always my desire to remain open and curious about where I am presently so that I may savor my life.
My work with clients is one of deep process. Working with my healing team of horses we co create an experience for our client to close the points of unfinished business of their life. This results in healing, relief and future normal responses to situations where they may have had reactions or over reactions in situations up to now.
I’ve been a highly trained Gestaltist for 30 years. Working with my horses as my fellow coaches in my work has always felt natural. After all, horses live in the present moment and are beautifully connected energetically to the human heart.
Remaining resourceful, kind, passionate, accomplished, grateful, nurturing, loving, and generous are the keys for me to follow my number one value in my life: to make a difference. I am driven by that value statement and express it in small acts, as well as in daily practice, to stay in balance. By serving others who are seeking growth and enjoying the process, I can do so with love and gratitude for myself and others.
My calling is to work with others by providing a container of safety in which they feel free to take a deep breath, courageously explore, drink from the pool of wholeness, and experience love of self while releasing the critical voice.
As a Gestaltist, I will continue to midwife souls through the journey to self-compassion as long as I am on this planet.
Below is from the card titled ” COMPASSION” in my card deck “Whisper’s from a Horses Heart.”
“You are being called upon to look at others with compassion right now. They may be trying your patience or even tempting you to make harsh judgements. However, you are being asked to reach deep within yourself to discover your sense of generosity and empathy. Feel their struggles or pain.”
“They are giving you a valuable gift by being in your presence at this time. This is causing you to stretch; to let go of all judgements; and further challenging you to not attempt to find any solutions . Just be present. That is all. Only love is the answer here. Hold to the purity of love without agenda and without outcome do not look for reason; just accept what is, for today. Compassion will heal all as you step into immense love and let the healing come form a higher source.”
